Following the purported plans by Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso to return to All Progressives Congress, a group under the aegis of All Progressives Congress Youth and Students Council in Kano, has kicked against the plans saying APC does not need Kwankwaso in the party.
The Director General, KASASCO, Yahaya Kabo made the remark while addressing a news conference held at Kano Press Centre on Tuesday.
According to the council, Kwankwaso’s return would bring no benefit to the party, either directly or indirectly, given his clear political decline.
“Under the current leadership of Hon. Abdullahi Abbas, the APC in Kano State enjoys a strong position with two sitting senators, members in the House of Representatives, and the State House of Assembly,” he said.
He noted that the NNPP in Kano is facing massive defection from its significant pillars, adding that the majority of the key elemental figures that brought it to power in the 2023 general election have long dumped the movement and joined the ruling APC in Kano.
He said, “Among the defectors are the current serving senator representing Kano South, Sen. Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, which beyond doubt NNPP cannot win elections without them in the party.
“Kwankwaso’s political relevance has come to an end. He now seeks political refuge by any means, knowing that only the APC could provide him cover. But the APC is not a refuge organisation, nor is it seeking the likes of Kwankwaso whose presence could only disrupt the unity and progress of the party.”
According to KASASCO, the APC has successfully resolved all its past internal rifts and is fully focused on the task ahead, and seeing that NNPP is on the brink of collapse in Kano by experiencing massive defection. He expressed optimism that APC would deliver Kano with over two million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates in 2027.
“KASASCO extends its deep appreciation to the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for his tireless efforts and leadership to ensure the party’s victory from the national level to the grassroots,” he said.
The council further commended the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin for his effective political strategy, which has led to 80 per cent of the Kwankwasiyya supporters being absorbed into the APC.
“The council also acknowledged the efforts of Engr. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, Ministers, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, Murtala Sule Garo, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, AA Zaura, Rabi’u Sulaiman Bichi and other party leaders contributing to APC’s strength,” he added.
