A Professor of Pharmacy and immediate past Vice Chancellor,  Chrisland University, Ogun State, Mrs.  Chinedum Babalola, and Deputy Vice Chancellor, KolaDaissi University, Ibadan [KDU-I], Prof. Olajumoke Morenikeji,  have called on students to pursue careers in science, saying humanity cannot  do without science and its impacts.

Babalola and Morenikeji made the call at the second Distinguished Lecture of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, KolaDaisi University , which took place at the Sherifat Agbeke Auditorium of the university, Ibadan.

Schools that participated in the lecture are Maverick College, Samonda; St. Louis Grammar School, Mokola; International School, Bodija;Deeper Life High School, Moniya; Divine Heritage College, Moniya; Dee Private School, Moniya and Christ City Model College, Moniya, all within Ibadan.

Speaking, Babalola, who was the guest lecturer, said everything is about science and it is the way of life.

The professor said the television sets,  Netflix, all  appliances, drugs for medical care, and transportation, adding that the advent of Artificial Intelligence [AI] has made it imperative for the students to pursue careers in sciences.  The scholar urged the students to use science to solve problems.  She said the richest people on earth are handling science.

Babalola said: ‘’Science is the way of life. Everything we see around us – the basic needs of man or mankind, what we eat, what we breathe, what we use, and whatever keeps us alive are linked to science. Our very essence of living and keeping a life is based on science. Our body is made of chemical compounds. Most of the things we use are made of chemical compounds, and when we say we are arts students, we say we draw music. Most of the things we call art, we can not display them.

‘’Now we are into Artificial Intelligence [AI], and you will be left behind if you don’t use it.  In transportation, there is GIS to control where you are going.

‘’The students should realise the importance of science, and then choose science as a career. Whatever they do, they should use science to promote it. The richest people on earth are handling science.  We must begin to use science to solve problems around them. The richest people on earth are handling science’’.

The Deputy VC  of the university, Prof.  Morenikeji, who represented the VC , Prof. Adeniyi Olatunbosun (SAN) emphasised that science has become a vital tool for human existence.

Also speaking, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Tim Odiaka thanked the guest lecturer for doing justice to the topic.
