Technology is future of functional education

.. As Chief Steve and Chief Stella Akinretoye Donate ICT Centre to UNIMED 

The consensus of scholars, industrialists, educationists and business moguls at the donation of an ICT Centre to the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo on Saturday,’ 8th March, 2025 at the main campus of the institution was that technology is the future of functional education.

Speaking at the event, the donor, Chief Steve Akinretoye, a philanthropist and Chairman of the UNIMED Advancement Foundation submitted that “no institution of learning can be globally relevant without Information and Communication Technology (ICT)”. He added that “technology is the future of functional education that will make learners become global citizens”. He then went further to say that”This ICT Centre will not only cater for the needs of UNIMED students but will benefit other people in Ondo State at large “.

The Governor, Hon. (Dr) Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, represented by his Senior Adviser on Health, Professor Simidele Odimayo, heaped praises on the donor for his thoughtfulness and selfless service to humanity. He also commended the Vice-Chancellor for his exemplary leadership that has placed the University on the global map and pledged the continued support of government to the growth of the institution. 

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adesegun Fatusi appreciated Chief Akinretoye for the donation and solicited support for the incoming Vice-Chancellor. In his words “I want to sincerely appreciate Chief Steve Akinretoye for the donation of this ICT Centre to the University. It’s a testament to the support of Ondo Kingdom for the growth of UNIMED. I would like to encourage other well-meaning Ondo indigenes to continue this tradition of helping the institution with their donations”.

The foundation for Chief  Steve and Stella Akinretoye ICT Centre was laid by  Osemawe, His Imperial Majesty and Paramount Ruler of Ondo Kingdom,  Oba (Dr) Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo, Jilo III, CFR.
